YOUTH FOOTBALL

Why Football?

Did you hear about the sport from a friend or neighbor and want to find out more?

First, you're in the right spot.  We offer Flag and Tackle programs at the youth level for ages 5-14.

If you have a child that is interested in football regardless of age, youth or middle school, have them check out one of our free intro resources located below.  Our site is continuously updated with info so please read through the information throughout the website. Can't find what you are looking for? Just email us and we'll be happy to chat with you.

Football is a great sport for physical activity, fun, and discipline. Don't worry if your kid has never played, as most kids here haven't so your child is not at a disadvantage.  A lot of kids have only picked up a football in the last year to two, and every year we add more new kids to the program.

EQUIPMENT GUIDE

Equipment Provided To The Player

Youth Football Helmet

PYFL will provide the following football uniform for use at practice and games.

  1. Helmet and chin strap
  2. Shoulder Pads
  3. Padded Pants w/ Belt
  4. Game Jersey (included in registration fee)

The uniform is issued before the season starts at the gear-up event.  All equipment will be properly fitted to the player by head coaches.  The  uniform must be returned at the end of the season or face a replacement fee.

Equipment Needed By Player

  1. Mouth Guard - We recommend the low-cost, moldable guards. Preferably,  one that straps to the football helmet.  Minimum of 2 mouth guards at all times in case one gets lost.
  2. Football Cleats - Proper footwear is essential.  Avoid baseball cleats which have a toe cleat.  If you cannot afford to purchase cleats, we have a shoe exchange or great used cleats that might fit.
  3. Extra Chin Strap (optional)
  4. Padded Football Shirt (optional) - Many kids like these for rib protections.
  5. Athletic Cup (optional)  - Strongly advised.
  6. Neckroll (optional)
  7. Prescriptive eyewear - if necessary.

**Always bring children's medication to all practices and games (i.e asthma inhaler)

How to Take Care of Your Football Equipment

All-in-one pants:  Machine wash.  Hang up to air dry.  Do not put in dryer because the built-in pads will shrink.

Game Jersey:  Machine wash on gentle cycle.  Hang up to air dry.

Shoulder pads:  Wipe with soapy sponge.  Towel dry excess water.  Air dry.

Helmet:  Wash with soapy sponge inside and out to remove dirt.  Softly scrub the chin strap.  Towel dry everything and air dry.  Please do not add extra stickers or decals unless sanctioned by PYFL.

How to Kick Field Goals

By Scott Sisson, Field Goal Kicker 10/01/2018, 12:00pm PDT

The bottom line was that ‘control’ became key in soccer-style kicking. Field goal kickers were much better able to ‘feel’ the ball on the foot when using the instep rather than the toe.
